National Sensitisation Workshop by the Kenya Meteorological Department
Maendeleo ya Walemavu Organization (MYWO) CEO, Sir Cosmas Julius, today participated as a stakeholder panelist during a National Sensitisation Workshop organized by the Kenya Meteorological Department. The panel discussion focused on strengthening inclusive early warning systems, reporting, and weather forecasting to ensure that climate and weather information is accessible and useful to all, including persons with disabilities. The four-day workshop brings together key producers and consumers of weather and climate information to collaboratively co-produce relevant, timely, and actionable information. The initiative seeks to strengthen communication, improve preparedness, and promote inclusive decision-making by ensuring communities receive and understand critical early warning information.
Building Climate Communication Capacity Through the Bridges Program
Maendeleo ya Walemavu Organization had the opportunity to facilitate an intensive capacity-building session for a diverse team of radio presenters, community radio stations, and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) under the Bridges Program. The initiative is implemented through the collaborative efforts of BBC Media Action and the Kenya Meteorological Department, focusing on strengthening community communication and climate-related information dissemination. The four-day training was held in Nakuru County and brought together media personalities, community representatives, and development actors from across Kenya. The engagement provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and strengthening participants’ capacity to effectively communicate climate information within their communities.
Tree Planting at NPCE ‘A’ Campus
On 28th February 2026, Maendeleo ya Walemavu Organization joined the Administration Police Service–Kenya at NPCE ‘A’ Campus for a tree planting and growing exercise. The event was spearheaded by Mr. Omar Ramadhan, MBS, HSC, AIG, Director of Sports and Chaplaincy, representing the Deputy Inspector General of Administration Police Service, Mr. Gilbert Masengeli, CBS, OGW, SS, alongside senior officers. Maendeleo ya Walemavu was represented by CEO Mr. Cosmas Julius, Ms. Claire Osoro, Director of Communication and Partnership, Mr. Elijah Manyeki, and Ms. Rose Mbugua of APDK. The initiative strengthened strategic partnerships, promoted environmental stewardship, and demonstrated commitment to disability inclusion and sustainable community development.
Launch of Disability Nature Trail Walk
The Oloolua Forest Eco-Tourism Group, in collaboration with the Kenya Forest Service, the local community, and Maendeleo ya Walemavu, officially launched the Disability-Inclusive Nature Trail Walk. The initiative aims to promote accessibility, inclusion, and equal participation of persons with disabilities in nature conservation and eco-tourism activities. The event was graced by the Guest of Honour, PS Ephantas Kimotho, alongside the CEO of Maendeleo ya Walemavu, representatives from the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, APDK, the National Police Service, the Assistant County Commissioner, the Senior Chief of Bullbull Location, Organizations of Persons with Disabilities, and members of the local community.
Tree Planting Initiative at Ronald Ngala Primary School
On 20th July, Maendeleo ya Walemavu Organization, in partnership with Africa Women for Climate Change, led by its Founder, Jacinta, and Bank of Baroda, led by its General Manager, planted 200 fruit trees at Ronald Ngala Primary School. The initiative was coordinated with the school’s Headteacher, two Deputy Headteachers, and members of the Environmental Club, which proudly includes learners from the Special Needs Unit. The tree-planting activity aimed to promote environmental conservation, strengthen climate resilience, and encourage sustainable practices within the school community. It also demonstrated the importance of inclusive participation in environmental initiatives and community development.
Strengthening a United Disability Inclusion Movement in Kajiado Central
Maendeleo ya Walemavu Organization was in Kajiado Central for a consultative engagement with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) operating within the region. The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration, amplifying the voices of persons with disabilities, and building a united, vocal, and progressive disability-inclusive movement. The engagement provided an opportunity to share experiences, identify common challenges, explore opportunities, and develop collective approaches to advancing disability rights and inclusion. Maendeleo ya Walemavu remains committed to meaningful participation and ensuring that persons with disabilities are actively involved in decisions that affect their lives. As we always say, “Nothing for us without us!”
International Wheelchair Day 2026 at USIU
On 1st March 2026, Maendeleo ya Walemavu Organisation commemorated International Wheelchair Day at the United States International University (USIU). Led by CEO Cosmas Julius, the event brought together the Maendeleo team, APS officers with disabilities, DCI representatives, the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), University of Nairobi representatives, the USIU Adaptive Sports team, caregivers, and friends of persons with disabilities. The celebration featured engaging sporting activities, including goalball for persons with visual impairments, woodball, and sitting volleyball. The event fostered inclusivity, strengthened partnerships, promoted social interaction, and celebrated the abilities and talents of persons with disabilities through sport, teamwork, and camaraderie.
